First - replace your tailgate cover screws. #8 sheet metal screws of 3/4" length.
This panel is an easy way to bypass tailgate devices, including mine. Replace them.
Information about the hardware: custom-size and thickness washers were needed to ensure maximum contact with the back of the bed post while not encroaching on any of the bends of the bed post, including the dimple. Aluminum was employed due it being corrosion resistant and more economical than stainless steel. The polycarbonate bushings provided eliminate a good amount of play that would exist with a 1/2" bolt going through a 3/4" hole. This makes installation much easier. It's made of polycarbonate, which has good material characteristics and is economical because I can 3d print them myself.
Installing this bracket will require the removal of the taillights. Two plastic retainers on each side hold the forward-most part of the taillight. You shouldn't need to replace them by removing the taillight one time. However, if you do need/want to replace them, here are the part numbers:
